From my studio in Tilburg, I make handcrafted ceramics, art prints and apparel that explore a sense of introspection. My work portrays the quiet, absent minded person.
I gather inspiration from some of my own experiences, being a bit hard to read myself. It’s okay to not always have obvious outward emotional reactions to the things happening around you. Sometimes it’s all just happening inside.
All my ceramics are made with stoneware clay, high quality glazes and gold luster. Pieces are either thrown on the wheel or hand built, fired up to three times. Each object takes a few weeks to make, and each piece is very dear to me as I put a lot of time and effort in them.
Nice to meet you! My name is Carmen. Born and raised in the Netherlands, I’m currently based in Tilburg. Here I work full time from my ceramics studio.
I graduated from art school as a graphic designer, but I later found my true passion in ceramics and illustration. Last year I took the leap of quitting my 9 to 5 job to pursue starting my own business. Studio Meloen is my ultimate passion project and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
